Hello everyone,
I hope you all had a great week. My week was awesome, and different than any other missionary's week could have gone. We got to go camping as an entire mission! How nuts is that? It wasn't "real" camping. We went to a girl's camp and stayed in cabins for 3 days and 2 nights. It was fun! We had a lot of devotionals and things to learn. The camp we went to was Camp Liahona. It is really nice and really big. I heard that it was 400 acres that the church owned. There was one tree there that was estimated to be about 2400 years old. It is massive! We were able to do some service for the camp. We helped with the clean up of potential fire debris from around the cabins. We also helped dig trenches around the cabins so the rains won't flood them. The whole campout was about helping the mission see that miricles happen. That we can all believe that we can baptize and achieve the goals that we set. We can accomplish anything. This has helped me a lot recently. I wish I had heard more of this at the beginning of my mission, but better late than never. It has really helped me focus on others and trying to help them. It is so true that if we can change out mind set from "I can't" to "I can," we can literally do anything that we righteously desire.
The best part of the week was that we were still able to
teach a lot and get a lot of work done before we went to this campout.
We were able to pick up one new investigator this week and it was a
really cool experience. We went tracting down this street about a week
ago or so and talked to this guy named Bob, who said that everyone in the
house was sick and he said to try another time. So we went by this
past week on Tuesday and knocked on the door that was already open.
This other guy named Tony answered the door. He was sitting on the
couch and we asked if Bob was home. He told us that he was at work.
Trying to be persistant missionaries, we tried to talk to him about the
church. He invited us in and we got to know him a bit by asking
questions that let us know his religious back ground. He told us
that he was into the fundamentals - what Christ was about and taught. We
then taught him about the apostasy and the restoration. He was really
interested about that and he told us about what faith meant to him.
We read the verse in Alma 32 about believing in things that you can't
see and more on faith. We left him with the Book
of Mormon to read and he said he would. Then we prayed with him and
left. We are seeing him again this week and we hope to teach more of
his family as well. We are hoping for the best with him.
Another cool thing that happened this week was with our
investigator Candy. She is a really interesting story. When I first got
here, we were teaching her and she was doing awesome - was ready to get
baptized, was working on stopping smoking and coffee- all was well, then
suddenly her whole world fell apart. Her health went bad, her
daughters would not let her see her grandkids, she was getting kicked out
of her place, and more. We had a lesson with her and
she was telling us that she has lost all faith in God and doesn't
believe in anything any more, and that there was nothing we could say that
would change her mind. That was a rough day to hear her say
that, but you can never give up on people. We went back at the
beginning of last week and she was doing a lot better. We talked with
her at the door step and she said that she was watching some talk show
about this young girl who painted these pictures of Christ and she
said something touched her so much that she realized again that God
has to be there and that she still wants to get baptized and quit
drinking coffee, and smoking. So that was a massive miracle with her!
I hope life is good with all of you and I am excited to
hear all the new and exciting things that are happening in all of your
lives. Thanks for all the support and prayers. I love you all and I am
