This week has been really interesting and full of lots of
changes that our investigators have gone through. First our
investigator Kenia had a big change of heart since she came to watch
conference with us. While we were on exchanges, Elder Thomson went to go
see her and he told me about what she thought of conference. He
said she loved it and wished she heard President Monson speak more.
But the best part was that now she understands the reason why she
needs to go to church. Before she really never new why she
needed to go. It just never struck her as important, but now she does.
It was amazing to hear him tell me cause it made me really
think of how powerful the spirit is and how it changes the hearts of
all people and now the next time we go by, we are going to invite her
to be baptized and hopefully set a new date with her and get things
moving a little quicker with her.
The next was with this man we have been teaching for a long
time named Rual. He is awesome and has changed a lot in a way. He
still likes to joke a lot when we talk to him but his interest has gone
up a lot. A few weeks ago we found out that he smokes about 2 packs a
day at work and we told him that we could help him quit smoking if he
wanted and he was really unsure about it. But again, while I was on
exchanges, Elder Thomson went by and they talked about the Word of
Wisdom and then they gave him a blessing to help him quit smoking.
That is a big deal since he is the kind of guy that usually doesn't ask
for help. He tries to fix everything on his own and when they asked
him if he had been reading, he told them that he had read through all
of 3 Nephi. That blew my mind when I heard that. You would not guess
that he smokes. He doesn't smelll like it, his house doesn't,
eyes, teeth, breath, nothing made him look like he had smoked ever in
his life. It shocked both Elder Thomson and I. The other night he
took us out to dinner at a really nice resturant and it was really
expensive. Now Raul is not poor at all: we road in his XL luxury
edition Escalade Suburban to the restraunt. Those are really nice. That
was the first time I have ever ridden in one. Anyway it
was super good. The food was awesome.
Candy, the lady we have taught for a bit, has had her whole
world collapse on her and the last time we talked with her, was
interesting. We came in and it started ok. She told us of the
stuff that happened in the past few weeks and she went off cusing like
a sailor! It was bad and then it went down hill! We think that she
was getting so wound up that her blood pressure went up. She wore
herself out and passed out on her couch right in the middle of us
talking with her. She was still breathing when we left so it was ok.
Then we realized before we left, that she might have still been awake
because her eye lids kept moving like she was blinking with them closed.
It was really weird but we hope and pray that she will get better soon
so she can get baptized.
That is that with our investigators but the fun thing about
this week was we got to go through the temple in Oakland. Iit was
awesome! It was a long drive early in the morning at about 6:40 when
we left. It is about a 3 hour ride there. When we got there, about
almost half the mission went the same day as us. It was cool to see
how full we made the session room and those rooms are big. We
did two sessions that day and I realized that that takes a lot of time
and you get really tired the second time around. On the way
back, we took the drive back through San Fransisco and it ended up
being the faster drive. That town is really cool and the bridge is
huge. I got lots of random pictures I will send home soon. That has
been the excitement of the week. I hope all is well with you and I
will let you know if I get transfered or not this week. So hold on to
mail for another week if you are thinking of sending something.
