This week's letter from Elder Pelton   uncensored  :)
this week was awesome and i want to start it with a funny story of a
crazy lady that we were teaching that we have been trying to drop for
a long time (it is kind of funny). her name is carolyn and she has
been taught by missionaries for about 6 months or so and she loved the
first missionaries and wanted to get baptized but once they got
transfered she didnt want to do it anymore. so we have been trying to
explain to her why she needs to and how she can feel those feelings
that she did when she first started meeting with the missionaries
again. but she was being stubborn and didnt want to no matter how many
times we explained to her about the preisthood and how the gospel
doesnt change. anyway to the funny part of the story, now you have
some background on this lady. so on sunday (yesterday) we were
supposed to have a lesson with her and whenwe got there she left a
note on her railing that i did not see until after i knocked on the
door that said she was sick and needed to rescheduale, btu she came to
the door and we told her that we did not see the note and she told us
that she called to tell us but we left our phone at the apartment...
oops.... so she took our number down again casue she thought she lost
it and so she came out the door and was struggling to walk down the
stairs like she was dizzy, i questioned that at first. then she sat
down on a picnic bench by her trailor and wrote down our number then i
could smell the alcohol and she was WAY DRUNK!!!!! she started to talk
about refections in the water and about how she hated her neighbors
and then we started to tell her that we could come by when she was a
little better and sober she said no! and then we talked about how her
reading went and she didnt do it. so i started to teach why she needs
to read and she interupted me adn said " i dont like you anymore" i
was shocked the rest of the time she would nt talk to me and if i said
something she would give me this dirty look and so elder thomson would
talk and she would listen to him but not me, then she started in about
how ahe hated her neighbors and started to curse like a sailor about
them and i said " alright we are leaving we dont need to hear this" so
we stood up and started to walk away and she said in a snobby way "you
are suppose to help me with my issues and problems" i told her "not
while you are cursing like that and i am not going to hear it." so she
started to yell " dont ever come back, you are useless, you dont help
anyone, you are good for nothing," and so on and so on.  so it was
very interesting experience really funny to me to see how people act
when they are drunk so now we are waiting for a call from her to have
us come back and talk again casue that is what she did last time. so
cool story huh.
on a lighter note we had another really cool experience with
a guy that we contacted. he was sitting on his back porch when we saw
him and we said hi and he walked back inside after we siad hi. shortly
after we passed his house i felt the stong need to go and knock on his
door, so we turnedaround and knock on the door and a teenage kid
answered the door and we asked if his parents were home. his dad came
to the door and we told him who we were and why we came to talk to him
and then he let us right in and we taught him about the restoration.
he is seventh-day adventist and he was really curious about who jospeh
smith was. he asked a lot of really good questions, we got through
almost all the the restoration but he had to go dropo his son off at
practice and so he asked if we could say a prayer before we left and
he offered it. he said we could come back and try and catch him home.
it was a awesome expirience with the spirit telling me that i needed
to go back and talk to him and sure enough we taught him and picked
him up as an investigator. we wer truly led to him by God and i am
glad that i turned around.
the spirt is everything in missionary work and in life,
there are so many times that we are prompted to go back or go this
way, it is a matter if we listen and follow what he tells us. that is
one of the most valuable lessons i have learned on my misison is to
listen to the spirit and it is one of the hardest that i am still
working on, i know the importance of it now it is the application of
it. i love you all and my companion is rushing me out the door and i
am out of time but i will send picture home soon. i hope you all feel
the love that i have for each of you and i am glad that you are in my
life. i have learned a lot from each of you whether you think so or
not. i am eternally grateful.
Love from,
Elder Pelton
