Dear Loved Ones All,
What a week. I’ll save the best for last. Some of you already understand, but no worry, I’ll get to it. J So basically some days were normal routine this week, and others were not the usual missionary days. On Monday, our P-Day, after taking care of cleaning and laundry, and a few ward assignments, since usually every time we drive just through, we went to the Orange Circle to peruse the antique shops and to see what was there. Evidently Monday is not the perfect day because many of the finer antique places are closed that day. But one of the shops (maybe I’ll call it an antique boutique mall) was one continuous stall after stall of antiques and oddities ever collected. It was not a high class place, so the really pricey pieces were not there but there were tons of stuff. It took us over an hour just to walk through, not even really taking time to look carefully. We had a good lunch at the California Barbeque. That evening the Westergards took us to the Chili Pepper for Paul’s birthday the day before. It was delicious and we always enjoy being with them.
We continued our week with trying to contact people and making as many visits as we could (still the same problems of no response to texting, phoning, and especially parking). However, one day, miracle of miracles, we not only were able to get an appointment, but we found a parking place just across the street of the apartment, and we were able to visit another member just a few apartments down from there. Tender mercy to be sure. I’ve also been trying to get the ward Christmas party organized on a not existent budget, and the Bishop doesn’t want sign-up sheets, so I guess I am going to spend this week on the telephone.
On Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, we took our 80 year old Hungarian non-member friend Maria to get a “Honey Baked Ham.” When we arrived at the store imagine our surprise to see not only a line, but a huge long line like the ones you see at Disneyland, snaking back and forth across the parking lot and down and around the corner on the sidewalk. We asked her if she really had her heart set upon a honey baked ham, otherwise we would take her to Costco to do her Thanksgiving shopping. She didn’t like the looks of the line either, so we turned around and headed for Costco, which was very busy also, but not like “Honey Baked”. She wanted a pre-cooked ham because she doesn’t see well at all, and she isn’t real steady on her feet, so she didn’t want to have to try to bake a turkey.
On Thanksgiving Day we went down to Laguna Niguel to take Brad and Becky’s 3 oldest kids out so the parents could continue painting their downstairs without their rambunctious helpers. Becky’s parents (Terry and Kandy) also were there and took us and the kids down to the San Clemente Beach for a nice long walk. It was a gorgeous sunny day and very pleasant and it was fun for us to visit as we walked. We took Brock back home for a nap while we and the girls went to Terry and Kandy’s house for a snack (actually Kandy made crescent rolls and she was just taking them out of the oven when we arrived. Yum!) Dinner wasn’t until 3:00 pm at Becky’s Aunt Tammy’s house up in Chino Hills, so we left and met there with a huge bunch of their family. The appetizers were really good. I especially liked the “Roasted Raspberry Chipotle” over cream cheese. The turkey and ham were done to perfection and there was so many other scrumptious sides that it was definitely a FEAST. Delectable!
Friday the Christmas Initiative, Light the World, came out on Mormon.org, so if you haven’t looked at that you really need to do it. An awesome video, and a fantastic advent calendar that starts on December 1 that you can print out…”25 Ways In 25 Days” We are really excited about it.
We were asked to sing “I Thank Thee, Dear Father,” as a duet at sacrament meeting for Sunday and after 47 years Elder Macbeth finally consented, so we have been practicing it off and on all week. He took the melody and I did the alto. Let’s just say that it was easier in our apartment by ourselves, but the actual performance was at least acceptable.
I have a pair of problem pants and a damaged dress waiting to be repaired, but the foot pedal on my sewing machine died, so we are waiting for a part, so the sewing can continue. Yesterday was transfers and the Elder is still here, but the Sister was transferred to another area, so I guess she’ll get her dress through the Mission Mail. On Saturday we got to man the Mission Office so that the mail could be delivered (Christmas packages, you know) and log them in so we know if anyone does not get something by Christmas, particularly those from foreign countries. We also had a baptism. A golden convert who had no habits he had to give up, who is optimistic and kind, and who has a smile that warms the soul. What a blessing to our ward.
Now for the promised NEWS. Thanksgiving Day, as we were driving back from taking the kids for a walk on the beach, we got a call from our oldest daughter and her husband. After 17 years of marriage, she is pregnant! They just found out and she is 33 weeks along. Looking back there were indications that she was pregnant but by now she knew that was never going to happen, so they didn’t register. They are having a baby boy and his due date is January 8. She got pregnant near the time we left for our mission so I think it is a “mission blessing,” but why ever this miracle, we’ll take it gladly. That’s all for today. J
May you all have a great new month and know that we love you!
Love, Sister and Elder Macbeth Go! Fight!!! WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
