Dear Loved Ones All,
Hmmmmm, what should I say about this week? Like I tell Elder Macbeth, he is writing the Small Plates and I am writing the Large Plates. So, there would not be so much to tell if it were all important and spiritual. Oh well, such as it is.
I got a rash and blisters on my hands this week. Sometime I get that when I do too many dishes (hence Elder Macbeth usually does our dishes.) However, I helped do the dishes most every Wednesday when we serve the homeless at Mary’s Kitchen with no apparent problem. But they had different gloves so I am guessing that is where I got my angry skin. If truth be told, I think I actually got a chemical burn because of the size of the blisters and even barely warm water felt like it was burning. Now let me tell you I have tried everything to calm the skin down, well not everything (since I didn’t have aloe vera or Benadryl creme) but I took Benadryl capsules, used my prescription med that the doctor prescribed for dish pan hands, Neosporin, and finally Lycopene chap stick. The Lycopene finally stopped the itch and my skin has calmed down, but my hands look about 3 or4 shades darker than the rest of my skin.
Well, enough of that. Our district assignment this week was to look for miracles. Of the 20 or 30 phone calls, texts, or just dropping by we have managed to visit 4 people. When we visited Brother Robison (he is 83 years old) we discovered his cousin is Richard Robison, a professor from our Ricks College Days. He was super talented musically, but I remember him most because he could whistle two notes at the same time. Anyway, brother Robison was so excited that we knew Professor Robison that he called him up on the spot right then and there. Can you imagine getting a phone call from two former college students out of the tons of kids whom you may or may not have had in one of you classes from about 50 years ago? At least he remembered my Dad (Oliver Parson) who also taught at Ricks back then.
I made Florentine cookies for the missionaries on Thursday. One of the sisters can’t have nuts so I made some of them using sesame seeds instead of crushed almonds. When Elder Macbeth tasted them he said that the missionaries would eat one because they don’t want me to stop bringing cookies, but that they would not be crazy about them. He was right, of course. Gourmet is not as good as regular cookies. I also baked two cakes this week. I baked a yellow cake for Sister Pennington’s birthday (one of the young sisters serving in our Ward) and a red velvet cake to take to the Anderson’s (office missionaries) for a spaghetti dinner with a few of us senior missionaries. It worked out perfectly because Sister Anderson’s birthday was Sunday, and Brother Anderson’s is Tuesday. The meal was delicious and the company was awesome.
We also got to go to the Newport Beach Temple to do sealings this week. We went down on the freeway and got there lickety split. We took Brother Pruitt, our Ward Mission leader, with us and he kept us entertained going and returning.
Sunday it was gratifying to see an increased number of people we have been working with attend Sacrament Meeting. It is also nice to know that more than just us are working to get the less actives out. We might even have had more members than Disney visitors this week, which is fabulous.
I have gotten to the place where I can’t think of anything more of interest. Thank you one and all who send e-mails and comments. Unlike the young missionaries we are not so restricted in receiving e-mails, we just don’t have time to answer them. We love you all, and miss seeing you. Have a great new week.
Love, Sister and Elder Macbeth
