Letter from Colin  July 18
Well today we went to the beach! so it was a momentous occasion for me I have now stood (we just stepped in the water since we can't go swimming) in both the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans. the outer banks here in North Carolina are like no other place I've been, it's just one massive long sandbar dotted with lighthouses and old life saving stations, and almost completely covered in beach "cottages" I say cottages because that's what everyone calls them, but we saw many that must have been 10,000+ square feet and four stories tall. we drove out there with the Hutchins who are some amazing members of the branch here, we drove on highway 64 and went past where the lost colony settled on Roanoke Island, and then drove down past the Boddie Island light to the Oregon Inlet and saw millions and millions of dollars of off shore fishing boats and the Coast Guard station there. Then we drove back to the huge jennette fishing pier in Nags Head and dipped our toes in the Atlantic ocean, and then walked about a quarter mile or so down the pier over the water. Next we drove up the old highway to the Wright Brothers' Memorial, and we stood on the spot where the Wright Brothers flew the first powered manned flight, which was some place I have always wanted to go, so today was the best P-day I've had on my mission. Oh and I had catfish fish and chips for the first time and it was really really good (nothing like back at home but still really good).
Besides seeing the awesome sights this week was still really good, on Tuesday we got a call from one of our investigators who works at the Penelope Barker house in Edenton (it's basically a visitor center and gift shop) and she asked if we could come help them out, so we went and for 4 hours folded newsletters and stuffed envelopes, which many would consider not a worth while missionary activity, but the entire time we got to get to know our investigator better and not only got to teach her the whole time but also our other investigator who also happens to work there! we asked them to ask us any question they had, that had to do with anything to do with the scriptures, God, religion, or any spiritual matters, and every single question they asked we had an answer to, and we answered them by almost exclusively with the Book of Mormon, which was perfect because that's what we were teaching them about.
we are also teaching this lady in a rehabilitation center and there is this guy there "brother fred" who is a retired minister who has completely lost his marbles and he saw us the last time we were there and this time he tracked us down and introduced himself to us about 6 times during the course of the conversation and he insisted on praying for us so we will be safe on our bikes, even though we told him that we drive a car he prayed anyways and he has some throat issue too because the whole time he was talking it sounded like he was gargling mouthwash. He was very nice (but got nothing of what we said to him) and he insisted on us coming to teach him twice a week, boy do we meet some very... um interesting people out here in eastern North Carolina. all in all another great week as a missionary, Have a blessed week y'all!
