Sarah White Missionary Letter #1:
HI!! I am in the MTC! I have a companion (Sister Hill who is AWESOME!!) and I have a name tag and I eat REALLY BAD cafeteria food for every meal! It really is bad!
It has been so cool getting all of these opportunities to teach! On our second day we went to our “Something and Purpose...” I always forget the name, and we watched videos about peoples’ lives and were instructed to identify what they were searching for in the gospel. I noticed halfway through the videos were done by the New York Times. Just by watching these people and hearing about their lives we were able to identify what they would want from the gospel! I know it does sound like much but I REALLY felt like a missionary!
The first day was long and I was tired and I was hungry!! When I got to the gate at the airport they had already started boarding! I sat next to an Elder who wanted to talk and ask questions and I just wanted to sleep! My carry on item was a pillow, for goodness sakes! We arrived and were led around the MTC to check in, get supplies, and find the MTC water bottles! They are really nice camelbacks and they were 8 dollars!! We went back to the classroom and received instruction for HOURS! Sister Hill and I went to a different building where we taught fake investigators about the gospel and it was so painful! This one elder kept on offending the investigators and we were all over the place! One of the investigators was really passionate about charities (one was anti-pornography and the other was for getting clean water to impoverished nations) and he told her "if there is no god, what is the point of charities? We are all going to die and turn into dirt if he’s not! " Which makes some sense, but trust me it didn’t work. I thought I would be sad and I would feel homesick, but all day I wanted to call home so I could tell you about the happy things!
Day 2 WAS SO HARD! I felt sad and homesick! The day was so long and none of us were able to sleep the night before so our whole district was sagging! Sister Hill makes me laugh so much, and we are such a team, that is was okay! We pulled through and even though we were tired out of our minds we had a lot of spiritual experiences.
Everything after that has been a blur of STUDYING!! Sister Hill was feeling tired and started yelling at the schedule " THIS IS ALL STUDYING! STOP TRYING TO GIVE IT A DIFFERENT NAME! JUST TELL ME IF I STUDY BY MYSELF OR WITH SISTER WHITE!" I am so excited to go to Mississippi!! I have felt so many blessings while I have been here! It has only been...How many days? But I already feel anxious to go. You can alter your clothes here for 50 cents! There is just so much to tell you but so little time to do it! It has been good though and I am doing fine!
I love teaching and I love being a missionary! Tell everyone I love them!
Love,
Sister White
Oh I get to call home next Monday while I am at the airport! Our flight is at 8:30. Will you be able to make it or should I leave a long message on the voice mail?
