This week was great. Both Elder Grow and I are staying here! He goes home in 4 weeks, though, on December 16th!
On Saturday, we removed 2 more trees from off of people’s homes. One of them was a "Pee-Can" tree so I now got some pecans to hopefully plant and grow my own---haha (it probably won't work, but ya never know). Then we went to Mt Olive so I could interview one of the other Elders’ investigator for baptism. She has been going to church and seminary for the last two years every day and she just turned 18, so now her mom is letting her be baptized. She is as ready as you possibly could be, so that was good considering she is the first person that I have interviewed for baptism. I can't believe that they trust me with that much responsibility.
We then went with Ben (who got home from his mission 18 months ago) to go teach a lesson and it was awesome. We were teaching about the Sabbath day and he invited our investigator to church and even offered to give him a ride. Unfortunately, when Sunday morning came, Ben went to pick him up and he wasn't even home! Sometimes I just wish people would do what they say they will.
The night of the election we were at Jan (said like yawn) and Hope's house and before dinner we had to move several of their goats to the pen behind their house. Jan's dad is a politician. He was a senator and is lobbyist in DC. Jan explained to me exactly the attitude of politicians by a story about his dad he told me, but we aren't supposed to talk about politics as missionaries, since we are official representatives of the church. . . .this week politics is the only thing anyone wanted to talk about, which was rather irritating.
At Church on Sunday we had another two less active members we work with come to church! So that was exciting, and we were asked to teach the primary kids about the resurrection. We explained when all of us are resurrected (which all of us will be, don't forget), we will have perfect bodies. A little 7 year-old girl raised her hand and asked, "Does that mean that when we're resurrected that my daddy will have all his hair back?" and we had to answer, “Yes,” obviously, because the scriptures do say that not a “hair of our heads will be lost.” In the end, I think that it may have been the only thing any of them pulled out of the lesson, but oh, well.
The people of this ward love to feed us dinner. Every single night, for the whole month, we have a family feeding us dinner! And most everyone has got some real good country cookin’, so I am looking forward to thanksgiving: T-minus one week! Last night we had shrimp stew, catfish, and homemade corn bread that was as good as ever. I hope y'all are doin’ as well as I am down here. Have a blessed week y'all! --Elder White
