Greetings from CAM August 2, 2016
Dear Loved Ones all,
The weather here has been hot (triple digits) but at least it is not humid. We continue to meet more people in the Ward. One sister who lives here got a good job at the same time her husband got a good job in Utah where he lives. She currently lives in a miniscule 5th wheel. It is really about the size of a camper that fits in the truck bed of a pickup, only it has a tip out. We visited with her outside because she said it was “crowded” in side (duh J). Anyway she and her husband take turns driving back and forth each weekend. They are youngish empty nesters. She said that for a while she had flaming red hair to match her red hot convertible. She decided after attending the temple not long ago, where she saw a bride with bright blue hair, that hair after all, is just hair. She said the bride was gorgeous. So she is not going to worry about her hair color anymore, although currently it is blonde for California. She also has a rock-solid testimony of the gospel. We definitely are meeting interesting people. The oldest person in the ward (93 years old) has reset his priorities so that he can go walking, visit friends, and read current books so he no longer has time to attend church or read the Book of Mormon. For some reason we are meeting a lot of elderly people who say they believe the church is true, but have decided that because they are old, that attending church is a low priority. We also meet younger people who say that they firmly believe that the Book of Mormon and the Church is true, and have been baptized, so they don’t think it is necessary to attend church either as long as they don’t smoke, drink, or break the law. We have met a few that attend many churches because all those churches believe in Christ and teach people to be loving and kind, sort of like covering their bases. I guess if I didn’t know for sure, it would be easy to be swayed one way or the other.
I continue making cookies for the Thursday Districts meetings. So far my favorites are Pam’s “World Famous Molasses Cookies” and the oatmeal sugar cookies in the Macbeth cookbook. And of course most all the missionaries love chocolate chip cookies. (I even managed to make Eve’s chocolate chip cookies. So I guess if I follow a recipe closely I can make things I don’t like at least acceptable.)
Locked gates and doors to apartment buildings still are challenging, but not at bad as finding a parking place. So many streets have “Permit Parking Only” if they are anywhere near Disneyland. I guess homeowners want to have a place to park when they come home. We served lunch twice this week. Different days, Same homeless, but different people in charge. They arrange the food just opposite from each other. Not much else to report so I’ll close for now. Have a great new week!
Love, Sister and Elder Macbeth
