Missionary Letter from Sarah: Greenville #2, October 27, 2014
Tuesday we went to Clinton and....drumroll....watched “MEET THE MORMONS!!” in the theater. If any of you have not seen it GO! They meant it when they said it was not for missionary work! It is very entertaining and sweet. I laughed and I cried! The part about the Missionary Mom made me miss all of you! You HAVE to go see it because there is a segment on a Bishop in the south! Not in my mission, but you get a glimpse of my life! It was very good!
So we were tracting in this rich neighborhood we noticed had not been tracted before. When we showed up I had a SUPER bad attitude! I hate tracting in rich areas because they are all super essential members in their own churches. And you know they are very close to the pastor because they pay his rent and his bills! So more often that not, they are not ready to talk to us!
So of course Heavenly Father decided to humble ME! The first person whose door we knocked on was a Southern Baptist preacher. In my head I was thinking, "AH--here we go again! He is going to bash on what we believe and not let us teach him anything!!" AND HE WAS SO NICE! He was SO humble! We shared a scripture and a song with him, then I felt impressed to share my testimony of prophets and apostles with him. He seemed very interested but somehow we ended up ending the conversation there and went on our way and tracted the rest of “dah skreet.” These little girls followed us on their bikes because we were singing hymns as we walked. The people we met must have thought that we were their mothers.
When we walked back to the car to go to a member’s house the pastor stopped us again! He asked us to explain what we thought a certain scripture meant.
26 ¶And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
SO! He asked us if there was nothing before the Creation who could God be talking to? That he felt like he was talking to the other parts of the "being" that is the Trinity. So I asked him to read a scripture in Jeremiah..
5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
So, I said--how could He know us before, if the only contact He has with us is when we are created in the belly? We as Latter Day Saints believe that our spirits were with God before the creation of the earth, and that God was talking to his son, Jesus Christ, in that scripture! We are going back next week to teach him the plan of salvation!
This is the funny part...After I had read that scripture and I looked over at Sister Garry, she was COVERED in hives! She had been petting a cat while I knocked on a door and IT WAS BAD! So I gave him a card and a restoration pamphlet and said, "We are going to go put some Benydryl into this girl!!
Did I tell you about the Blacks? Well, I am going to tell you again!
We have the most awesome investigators EVER! The Blacks are a retired couple who used to hang out with some “apostate” missionaries. The missionaries would go over and watch football and TV...UGH! Anyway we are teaching them now! It is perfect because they blame our "strictness" on us being Sisters instead of Elders, which is just fine! They love us a lot :) They are taking us to Greenwood to eat frog legs this Wednesday!
Greenville is a lot different than Vicksburg...We don't have a teaching pool and there are all of these areas we are not allowed to go in. I have been struggling a bit here, mostly because I miss Vicksburg. And because we bike EVERYWHERE! We had to use half of our miles to go to all of these far away meetings this month! We have 7 miles a day...and it takes us 5 miles to get to the church...AND we have to share the car with the elders on P-day... Some creepy guy in our apartment complex complimented my legs when we were walking in our sweatpants to get the mail. At first I was creeped out, but then I decided, "I deserve that compliment!"
So, speaking of sharing the car with the elders-- I have to go give the car to them! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!
I will talk to you next week!

Let's hear no complaining about having to share a car or watch the miles you drive. Bicycles and/or walking were what I got to use ALL the time. I guess that just shows my age.
