Labor day and Spiral Jetty

Here we are at the Golden Spike Monument. I went there about 30 years ago with my friends and Barry decided to take me to the Spiral Jetty, so we stopped at this historical site first. We got there just in time to see them move the trains into their "barns". It was fun to learn about the different kinds of locomotives and refresh an old history lesson.
Then, on to the Spiral Jetty! It is 11 miles on a dirt road past the  Golden Spike. I really can't say what inspired this guy to move tons of rocks and secure them in the Great Salt Lake somehow in this particular pattern - but it is kinda cool. It might look even cooler if there was water up to the rocks, but at this time the water is about 100 feet away from the Jetty. 30 years ago, it was completely covered, so I guess that is why my friends and I didn't go the extra 11 miles!
Now, this is today's ride - we went up Farmington Canyon and had a great view of the Great Salt Lake. That is Antelope Island just left of Barry's shoulder.
Aubrey and Barry trying to make a fire with Aubrey's new fire started flint magnesium thing - they were not successful, so it's a good thing we had a Scripto lighter!
Jennae taking our new hotdog holder on it's first outing...
and another view of the lake on they way back down the canyon.
Good times! We saw the first signs of Fall--trees putting on their new colors in a few places!

Your family always does such fun things together! I think it's wonderful that you have such good family relationships and know how to play. :)
