A letter from Andrew:
Hey everyone. I hope you all have had a great week where ever you may be. This week has been good here in Fairfield. We have had two really good weeks and I hope this coming week will be even better than these past few weeks. I love to look back and see the change that this area has gone through and where it is now. It has changed 180 degrees. When I got here, we were teaching very few people and now we are teaching a bunch of people. I remember I was getting so tired of not teaching and that no matter how hard I worked, nothing was going to come from it and I would get discouraged that I was going to leave this area and have not made an impact on it. Now that I see where it is today, my soul is filled with joy and comfort to know that no matter if I leave this transfer or the next, that what I did here is pleasing to the Lord. I have worked my hardest here, more than in almost any other area. I have also been put through countless tests that have helped me grow and have helped me see who I really am and what I need to do better each day. Sometimes the things that we need to change or work on, are extremely hard to see and it takes a lot of looking and trial and error to know what they are. I have really come to know that we have to wait for a while before the Lord will reveal those things to us, some times they are super easy to see and then we can immediately fix them and move on but it is the hard ones to see that make us grow the most.
We had a really cool experience this week with one of the new investigators
we picked up. Last week we talked to this guy named John outside of his apartment after one of our lessons fell through. He waved to us to say hi and asked us who we were and what we were doing. So we talked for a little bit. He was telling us that he did not agree with what we taught - about how we think God is not who he really is and that we don't believe certain things. We told him, " We are not JW's." He said "Oh, well never mind. Who are you then?" So we talked about how God has called a prophet and so on. He knew who Joseph smith was and said come by another day and we will talk about Joseph Smith. My first thought was this guy is going to want to try to bible bash with us. So we came by the time that we set up and he was not there. We started to walk away to go see another person when he pulls up in his car and we start talking to him outside his apartment again. We started to talk and we got onto the subject of the creation and basically the after life and then the whole plan of salvation. He was telling us his view of who God was and how we got here and how he thought that after this life there should be "different levels of heaven" since there are so many different people out there. We taught him how there was and that this life is meant for us to prepare for after this life. Then he told us his testimony of how he came to know that there is a God. He was into heavy drugs when he was a teenager and he overdosed and had an out of body experience and he prayed to God to save him. As soon as he asked he woke up and snapped back into it. It was really cool. Now we are teaching him on a regular basis.
The Lord is very creative with how he leads people to us or us to them. I am glad that the Holy Ghost prompts us to do certain things and go to certain places so we can be in the paths of one of the prepared people. I have learned a lot since I have been here and I can't wait to see the change in my self when I leave here and move onto the next part of my journey. My companion and I are getting along a lot better now and we are getting used to each others personalities - sort of and I am trying to help Elder King change to be more positive and uplifting as he speaks. So all is well here and I am grateful for all of your prayers. I love you all and I am glad you are in my life.
Elder Pelton
