This weeks saga....I really need to write a book. So Tuesday Darwin had his post op and everything is great and wonderful and I thought for just a moment maybe we would have a break! HAHAHA was I mistaken! The very next day I decided to fall down four stairs with Porter in my arms and gave myself two stress fractures in my left foot as well as a severly sprained ankle. I'm now sporting a very fashionable boot which will be on display at the reunion. I'm suppose to stay off of it and use crutches and I just laughed at the doctor and said that is NOT an option, being that I have three kids under three!! The rest of the week was fine uneventful until....yesterday. Around two-o-clock I come home to find Porter throwing up in the toilet. I'm thinking great stomach flu. Later that evening I put Denver to bed and Darwin goes up 10 minutes later to read stories and the next thing I hear is, "Candace Denver is sick" I'm thinking yep stomach flu... great. I get Denver calmed down and start cleaning when he starts crying and yelling, "I ate it mom! I ate the money!" He found a penny right before bed and I took it from him but obviously didn't place it out of his reach cause as soon as I left he got and swolled it! I get him ready to go the ER and I run to go to the bathroom before I leave. There at the bottom of the toilet was another penny. Apparently both of my children yesterday swolled pennies, only Porter has a better gag reflex than Denver and he got his out. Denver on the other hand...well the pictures speak a thousand words! The penny was logged in his throat and they were going to life flight us to Bend for a surgical removal this morning at 7am. They addmitted him to the hospital and monitored him all night. They said he had a 4% chance of it moving and going to his stomach and a 48% chance of it not moving at all and a 48% of it moving down the wrong tube towards his lungs. So we spent the evening and morning in the hospital. I spent the night crying in frusteration and praying that it would somehow do what the Doctors didn't think was possible and end up in his stomach. After an x-ray in the morning, the Doctors were amazed... It was in his stomach and surgery won't be necessary!! Yeah my prayers were answered! All I can say is Denver sure learned his lesson!

Unbelievable!! You'd think you were Dave's child instead of Steve's. It was always the family pattern for all the weird, painful things to happen to Dave instead of spreading it around to all of us kids. Carla and I used to joke that we should have paid him for saving us from all the troubles. The good part is you will be on a first name basis with Heavenly Father, like the winter I called to doc every three or four days - they recognized my voice. I'm sure God recognizes your voice and knows it's an emergency -answer this one quick!! We love you and are continually amazed by your ability to endure. Stay off your foot.....HA HA HA HA HA!

Since a busy mother like you probably doesn't have time to write in a journal, I hope someone is saving all these blog entries from you so that years from now you will have a written record of all the things you have survived. You're certainly earning gold stars in my book!
You might consider using a wheelchair for a while. It sure beats crutches, and your boys would love riding in it. We'll make sure you get pampered at the reunion. Love you lots.

Candace, I sure love you!!! You are SO strong, seeing wnat you go through makes me think that my problems, which may seem huge, aren't so big after all.. You are such an inspiration! Can't wait to see you at the reunion! The wheelchair is a good idea.. Mom had one when she sprained both her ankles after falling down our steps outside in the middle of the winter holding baby Vince. She rode around in a wheelchair for a while.

I think a wheelchair would still be difficult...we have stairs! And I don't think it could take the corners in our house! Oh well though such is life!

Wow.....it seems like you guys never get a break! But it does remind me of a mean mom story.....and believe it or not...I was the mean mom. Yesterday, Spencer told us he was sick because he ate a nail (which really wouldn't surprise me). So....since he has had a little history of lying lately I thought I would act nonchalantly and I told him that it was a very dangerous thing to do. When he asked why I TOTALLY lied to him and told him that it could go into his tummy and poke a hole, then when he drinks water, it would spray out the hole in his tummy. He looked TERRIFIED...so I think he may have really swallowed the nail.....but so far no problems..so we are hoping for the best. I was tempted to get his bath toy and the next time he took a drink, spray it just to freak him out....but I thought that might be a little too far! It's just nice to know that my son isn't the only one eating metal!

So, when you guys go to the hospital or doctor's, does the the staff just say, "hey Candace" or "what now?" Amazing.

Shelene! I'm so proud of you! I thought only I did underhanded things like that to fool my children into submission!

Candace - bless you dear, bless you.
